Slovakia is located in Central Europe and is a landlocked country.  Slovakia borders the countries of the Czech Republic, Austria, Poland, Ukraine, and Hungary.  The population is over 5 million and the country is a member of the European Union.  Most citizens are ethnically Slovak and Hungarians can be found in the south and east portions of the country.

Slovakia’s telephone system is privatized and modernized and new subscribers have no waiting period.  Service quality is greatly improved over recent years and the analog equipment is being replaced with digital exchanges and fiber optic cable.  Mobile coverage is now covering 97% of Slovakia.
