The Czech Republic is located in Central Europe and borders Germany, Austria, Poland, and Slovakia.  The capital and largest city is Prague, which is also a major tourist attraction full of historical sites and culture.  The Czech Republic is a member of NATO, OSCE, and the European Union.  The country is ranked highly among developing nations coming from the former Communist regimes.  The Czech government has expressed a desire to adopt the euro currency in 2010, but the introduction of the currency is currently only in the early planning stages.

The telecommunications system in the Czech Republic is being continuously improved, with 86% of exchanges now handled by digital equipment and the remainder supplemented with ADSL equipment.  Fiber optic cable, microwave relays, and five satellites for international communication round out the system.
